Pranks on the staff...

What another fantastic day in Bahrain.  Im not making this up.  It seems like five out of every 7 days are great for me out here.  Im pretty blessed and fortunate.  The day started out with me sending the following email to all my staff:

Staff,

There has been a lot of dissension lately about employees not willing to other jobs because it falls out of line with their primary job responsibilities.  This does not foster a team atmosphere and ultimately hurts the efficiency of the company.  Unfortunately we'll have to take semi-drastic measures to fix the problem.  "Job Shifting" is an "American" management technique that has been proven to be very difficult but very effective in working.  We can afford a period of time of inefficiency while we all cross-train into our temporary new roles.  So starting this Sunday April 5 you will all have new titles and job responsibilities for a period of 60 days while we cross-train and become more skilled at positions across the board.  Please take the next five days to get with the old position employee to get trained and adept to be able to do the job starting this Sunday.

The New 60 day assignments are as follows.

Simi:                        Accounting

Bene:                        Receptionist

Reji:                        Head of Photograpy/Photoshop

Manu:                        Principal Videographer-Editor

Natasha:            Chief Video Editor

Saji:                        Principal photogapher photo shot

Manoj                        Driver

Ahmad            Photographer/Asst. General Manager

Armand            IT Manager

Guy                        Wedding Planner

Tanya                        Graphic Designer

Julie                        Sales Manager

Jeddah            Hair-Wardrobe-Make up for all future photo/video shoots

Rick                        Office Boy

Priyesh            General Manager

Khalifa            Staff Fisherman-Caterer

Please handle these new responsibilities with professionalism and enthusiasm

April Fools.

Now if you knew the personality of my staff…the first few job shifts were feasible then they became increasingly ludicrous.  We got a few laughs out of it at the office.  Everyone thought it was serious until they saw me and Priyesh our regular office boy changing positions.  Priyesh was funny…after he learned of the email he boldly marched into my office and yelled “get out!”…with a big smile on his face.  I posted a picture of him and I played along with it, and got him his morning coffee.  I don’t drink coffee or tea so Priyesh keeps me loaded with Diet coke.   Tanya got all excited and wanted to help me with the incentive packages to keep the employees motivated as she thought their spirits were low.  After an awkward moment or too...I said...Um Tanya did you read all of the email.  "No...Why?...."

Tanya and I had a last minute appointment for a members only business club.  This was in the top floor of the financial harbor building, which is amongst the most exclusive in Bahrain.  The club is not yet open to the public…but wow, what an amazing place this was.  All the furniture was hand made and different from everything else.  This place alluded luxury in every sense of the word.  It also alluded $$$$ in every sense of the word.  Memberships at this ultra exclusive club start at $150,000.  So that is a bit out of my price range lol.  I’m hoping we can do the video for them, and they can spot me a free diet coke up there every once in awhile.

We also had good news from the business side.  We struck a deal with a art gallery to display Khalifa’s photographic art.  It was a fair deal and both sides are very excited about the partnership.  It turns out Im becoming a better negotiator after believing myself to be poor at it all these years.  They are going to have a special selection honoring Khalifa in their store (the have 8 other stores throughout the Gulf) and we are planning a private reception and inviting the press to cover the event.  This will really help the branding of KSDi in this region.  By the time I get finished…everyone will know the name of KSDi in the Middle East and hopefully the world.  God is indeed blessing me.
